Samyukta Loktantrik Madhesi Morcha (SLMM), an alliance of agitating Madhes-centric parties, has said its serious attention has been drawn towards the inhumane suppression of its protest programme at Birgunj early morning on Monday. The SLMM claimed that the government was concocting plan for the past 3-4 days to end the Madhes-agitation by use of force.
In a press statement on Monday, the Morcha leaders said government has not presented itself responsibly in the talks with them. “On one hand the government was preparing to re-mobilise the army, activate the Armed Police Force and extend the restricted zones while on other it was staging the drama of holding talks,” read the statement Condemning the government’s step as a height of suppression, the Madhesi front said the brutal conduct of government has created the environment where talks would end. “The government will be responsible for possible confrontation that may arise,” the Morcha said in the statement, calling the people’s attention towards the incident. The Morcha urged the government to present responsibly and make the environment conducive for talks. The Madhesi front expressed its condolence to the ‘martyr’ killed in today’s police firing, saying that hundreds of people were injured during the clash.
